Town Talk: T-Birds share gridiron joy Show off trophy: UBC players visit Canuck Place Children’s Ho

EXTRA POINT: Residents of Canuck Place Children’s Hospice often have hockey players visit. But rink gave way to gridiron recently, when members of UBC’s Thunderbirds football team and coach Blake Nill arrived bearing gifts. They included one they’d given themselves, namely the Vanier Cup the T-birds won after besting U of Montreal’s champion Carabins squad on Nov. 28. Accompanying the players, former Vanier Cup winner David Sidoo had helped fellow 13th Man Foundation directors fund the campus’s new Football Academic Centre. Also present, varsity academic coordinator Sandra Wigg said the team’s Montreal visit wasn’t all pass, punt and party. Course books supplanted the playbook during off-field moments, she said.
