Deputy director of the service of sport from Laval University and head of the Rouge et Or since 2004, Gilles Lépine, will continue his career with the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds, who appointed him Senior Athletic Director.

He played volleyball in Quebec in the mid 1970s, was head coach of women's training (1978-1979) and men's (1981-1984) of the sport, and will leave officially office at Laval University at the end of May.

"It is with regret that we say goodbye to Gilles, but we also understand his decision to want to take up a new challenge," said the director of the sports program, Christian Gagnon, in a statement.

"This is an extraordinary opportunity for my family and myself. I live a new chapter in my personal, family and professional life in another challenging and dynamic environment,"

commented Lépine, who worked 12 years for the University, in addition to acting as head of the Canadian mission summer Universiade in Gwangju, South Korea.

Gagnon intends to put in motion quickly the search process to fill the vacant position.
