Six Thunderbirds named to Canada West All-Star team
VANCOUVER - As their playoff clash with the Regina Rams on Saturday quickly approaches, the Thunderbirds learnt Thursday morning that six players (2 offence, 3 defense, 1 special teams) were named Canada West All-Stars.
Levi Hua (Offensive Line) – the third-year Faculty of Arts student has been a stabilizing force on the T-Birds offensive line. Hua has started every game for the Thunderbirds this season at centre.
Ben Cummings – (Running Back) – the second year Sauder School of Business student has exploded in the second half of the season. Cummings has amassed 1231 total yards of offence and scored four touchdowns in 2016.
A. J. Blackwell – (Half Back) – the third-year Faculty of Arts student has become a dynamic performer on the T-Birds defence. Blackwell led UBC in tackles with 57, forced three fumbles and blocked a punt in 2016.
Trivel Pinto – (Cornerback) – Pinto's amazing season saw him shine on both sides of the football, as a dangerous wide receiver and a shut-down cornerback. The second year Faculty of Arts student picked off two passes, while leading the 'Birds in TD receptions with 8 in 2016.
Stavros Katsantonis – (Safety) – "The Bakersfield Bandit" led the T-Birds with five interceptions in 2016 and was a unanimous selection to the Canada West All-Star team. The second year Faculty of Arts student also recovered two fumbles and recorded a sack on the season.
Marcus Davis – (Receiver/ Kick Returner) – the dynamic Davis was having a prolific season before being sidelined with injury. Despite playing only seven games in 2016, Davis still racked up 842 all-purpose yards and returned a punt for a touchdown.
